OFT Celebrates 10th Anniversary

OFT event

On November 20th, friends of farmland from across Ontario gathered at Country Heritage Park in Milton to celebrate OFT’s 10th Anniversary. It was a great   evening, complete with a local food feast, music by Norman Liota, and a humorous talk by playwright Dan Needles, on “land, community, and lost sheep”! OFT Dan Needles

Proceeds from the event went to OFT’s $1 million Farmland Forever campaign that is building our capacity to protect more farmland for the future.

One special part of the celebration was the presentation of OFT’s first Farmland Forever Legacy Awards – the start of a new tradition to recognize individuals and organizations that have made exceptional contributions to the protection of Ontario farmland. Stew Hilts, Don Prince, and Rodger Cummins were presented with the inaugural Legacy Awards for their many years of volunteer support that was instrumental in the establishment of OFT. Don and Rodger were given special thanks for the countless hours they have devoted to building up OFT technical expertise in farmland protection easements over the past ten years. OFT awards

Our celebration was a huge success – many thanks to the friends of farmland that attended, as well as our celebration sponsors:
Ontario Federation of Agriculture
Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario
Canadian Lamb Producers Cooperative
Pfennings Organic Farm
Wellington Brewery & The Cider Keg
