Call for Volunteers for OFT Board of Directors

Are you interested in supporting the protection of farmland in Ontario? Do you have fundraising, financial, communications, agriculture, land use planning, real estate, or other business experience? Why not consider joining the volunteer team of Board Members at the Ontario Farmland Trust (OFT). The OFT is a registered charity and active member of the Ontario Land Trust Alliance.

The Ontario Farmland Trust’s Board of Directors is accountable and responsible for effective governance, fiduciary care, program delivery, and management of the organization. The Board sets strategic direction and priorities for program development, then guides and oversees the work of the organization, carried out by our Executive Director, part-time staff, partners, and volunteers.

There are current opportunities for new Directors. We seek diversity of expertise to enhance capacity and productivity of the charity. Qualified candidates are interviewed as part of recruitment and nomination. Directors are elected, for up to three years, at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), held in June. Interim appointments may be made by the Board of Directors to fill vacancies until the next AGM.

Directors are expected to:
• Be committed to the mission and work of the Ontario Farmland Trust;
• Promote and support OFT’s programs and services;
• Participate in events (e.g. Annual Farmland Forum, AGM, easement celebrations);
• Support our fundraising activities and promotional events;
• Attend about 4 to 6 meetings of the Board of Directors annually; and
• Serve on at least one committee (e.g. Fundraising Committee, Policy & Education Committee, or Land Securement & Stewardship Committee)

The average time commitment for Directors is from 5 to 10 hours per month. Directors must sign a Board Member and Confidentiality Agreement, and become a member of the Ontario Farmland Trust.

You may submit a letter of interest with your CV, to the OFT, addressed to our Board Chair, at this e-mail address:

In your letter, please include details about your volunteer and work experience and how these relate to the mission and programs of the OFT. What is your interest in farmland protection and why do you want to serve on the Board of Directors?

Qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview. We thank you for expressing your interest in the OFT and for your support for farmland protection.
