PEC Farmland Celebration Tour

Celebrate Earth Day in Prince Edward County with the Ontario Farmland Trust at a special two-stop tour showcasing newly protected farmland on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

This event marks the permanent protection of two additional farms: the Ackerman and Bazett-Jones properties. This brings the total to 8 protected properties in the region, with 3 more currently in progress. Together, these efforts are helping to secure the future of agriculture, local food systems, and rural landscapes in Prince Edward County.

In the spirit of Earth Day, this tour is also an opportunity to deepen our understanding of why farmland protection matters not only for food production, but for the health of our environment. Protected farms play an important role in supporting biodiversity, including species at risk that depend on agricultural landscapes such as grasslands, hedgerows, wetlands, and riparian areas. From birds like the Bobolink and Eastern Meadowlark to pollinators and other wildlife, these working landscapes are vital habitats that connect conservation and agriculture.

Guests are invited to join us for guided tours, landowner stories, and community connection at each site. Come experience these landscapes firsthand, learn about the importance of farmland conservation, and celebrate what it means to protect farmland for people, nature, communities and future generations.
