Our popular winter webinar series returns, free and open to all, covering topics on the latest development pressures on farmland, innovative solutions, strategies in stewarding farmland, and ways you can get involved locally.
Healthy soil is the foundation of productive and resilient farmland. Join Owen Ricker, Farmer Engagement and Research Liaison for the Ontario Soil & Crop Association, for an introduction to practical, science-based approaches to improving soil health, including techniques such as drone-seeded cover crops, cover crop grazing, and nitrogen inhibitors. Participants will gain valuable insights into how these practices support crop yields, water retention, and climate resilience, while contributing to long-term agricultural sustainability.
About Owen:
Owen, the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association’s Farmer Engagement and Research Liaison for the Living Labs project, comes from a cash crop and chicken farm in Haldimand County. After graduating from the Agricultural Science program at the University of Guelph, he worked at Woodrill Farms and pursued his Certified Crop Advisor designation. When he isn’t working, he enjoys working on his family farm on evenings and weekends.
