What an engaged and curious group of conference attendees! The Ontario Farmland Trust had the pleasure of hosting a table in the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO) conference trade show last week alongside our partner, Thames Talbot Land Trust (TTLT). TTLT is a great land trust local to Elgin, Middlesex, Oxford and Perth counties. If you’re in that area, we encourage you to check them out! They will soon be releasing their 2024 programming; we got a sneak preview last week – really interesting and diverse programs coming up including skill building opportunities.
The EFAO is a rapidly growing farming organization for sustainably oriented farmers in Ontario. The conference included in depth sessions on different facets of ecological farming – managing parasites in sheep, growing vegetables using no-till and more, as well as the latest in agricultural policy work, and tips to accessing public lands for farming. We had a blast talking with conference attendees about their dream and concerns around farmland protection, and answering the popular question, “What is a land trust, anyway!?” We hope everyone left with a smidge more insight into the ins and outs of land trusts. See you next year!
