Thank you to the Wellington Farmers Market for having OFT at the market on August 26th, 2023. We had a blast talking with market goers! Almost 50 passionate folks stopped to chat about the importance of protecting our precious and limited farmland.
We heard from local Prince Edward County residents, concerned for the new nearby housing development set to be built on beautiful, class 3 prime agricultural soils. We heard from young farmers how they are navigating farm succession planning conversations with their parents and grandparents. We heard from neighbours of the Duffins Rouge Agricultural Preserve, concerned about the development plans for the area.
With provincial policy changes over the past year and questionable activity within the housing minister’s office, farmland is even more in the minds of local Ontarians. We encourage you to turn that concern into action! Call your MPP, email them, or request a meeting. They need to know the opinions of their local constituents; your concerns for farmland and the environment matter.
OFT staff and volunteers will be next at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show in September. We hope to see you there!
