Food Systems Planning by Design: A Blueprint for Food Systems Evaluation provides a unique spatial planning approach to food systems development.
The Blueprint includes a series of maps and visual scenarios that encourage planners and other users (policy-makers, economic development officers, farmers, etc.) to consider what agricultural and food-related activities occur on the landscape and to imagine what the farming landscape will look like in the future. Policy development in support of agriculture and food systems at all levels of government is emphasized.
There has been great interest in the Blueprint and this new spatial approach to planning among municipalities and the Province, and will be foundational to continued outreach to planners and government.
The Blueprint was developed by Matthew Somerville, a landscape architect and planning consultant, and Arthur Churchyard, a Masters student in the University of Guelph School of Planning.
Stay tuned: the final Blueprint will be released soon!
