OFT Summer Students
OFT is excited to introduce and welcome two new members to the team! Emma and Connor are joining the organization for the summer as Farmland Program Assistants, and will be working alongside our Executive Director, staff, and volunteers to promote the OFT’s mission. They will be representing OFT at community events including local farmers’ markets, as well as conducting research, fundraising, and administrative tasks.
Emma recently completed a Bachelor’s of Science from Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. During her Honours research surrounding bee health in Canada, Emma became passionate about how to help Canada’s wild bee colonies and the natural and agricultural land that they rely on for food and nesting. Through her work with OFT, Emma hopes to share her interests by reaching out to communities and connecting with individuals who believe in the importance of protecting farmland. Her passion for the conservation of the rich agricultural land here in Ontario (and all of the wildlife that lives there!) will be an asset to the OFT team.
Connor has recently graduated from Lakehead University’s Faculty of Education. He believes that the protection of agricultural land across the province begins with a thorough, community-based understanding of the impact farmland loss has on our province. With previous experience in community outreach and fundraising in cities across Ontario, as well as a background in education outside of the classroom, Connor brings valuable insight to our team.
Watch for Emma and Connor at the OFT community booth at your local farmers’ markets! We are excited to welcome them both to the OFT team and look forward to working with them over the summer.
